چکیده

Recently, we read with great interest the article by Liu et al, which was published in your journal (Liu et al., 2010). The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of the COX-2 gene 8473T>C polymorphism on lung cancer risk. The results indicated that the COX-2 gene was a factor for suffering from lung cancer, especially of small cell type among Asians. After carefully reading the article, we noted several issues which should be considered. First, the authors appeared to have missed one paper published by Lim et al. (2010). The detailed search process was not well-documented. Second, evidence suggested that deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) might reflect the presence of genotyping errors, population stratification, and selection bias in the controls (Boccia et al., 2010). Though, the authors stated that genotype frequencies of all studies in the controls were consistent with HWE, we found a significant deviation from HWE in one study(Liu et al., 2010). Association of the 8473T>C cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) gene polymorphism with lung cancer risk in Asians.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of the COX-2 gene 8473T>C polymorphism on lung cancer risk in Asians, we conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis. METHODS A literature search was performed using PubMed and other databases before June 2010. We pooled studies according to the variants of 8473T>C and performed separate analyses according to ethnicity, histological type and smoking status, with a...

بررسی رابطه پلی‌مورفیسم تک‌نوکلئوتیدی T/C در ژن CYP1A1 با شروع بیماری و استعمال سیگار در بیماران مبتلا به سرطان ریه

Abstract Background: Several single nucleotide polymorphisms have been found in CYP1A1 gene and it was reported that C allele in T/C gene polymorphism is associated with lung cancer. Current study investigates interaction between cigarette factor and C/T polymorphism in the m1 locus. Methods: Present study is a case-control and retrospective study. T/C polymorphism in 112 patients with lung...

Association between 8473T>C polymorphism in the cyclooxygenase-2 gene and the risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

BACKGROUND No studies have examined the relationship between COX-2 8473T>C polymorphism and the risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Chinese population. MATERIAL AND METHODS 296 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 300 age and gender-matched healthy controls recruited were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Cancer risk associated w...

The Association between Three Cyclooxygenase-2 Polymorphisms and Hepatocellular Carcinoma Risk: A Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND A quantity of case-control studies have been performed to address the association between three cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) polymorphisms (-1195G/A, -765G/C and +8473T/C) and the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, previous research results are inconsistent. We conducted this meta-analysis to clarify the correlation between these COX-2 polymorphisms and HCC risk. METHODS T...

A polymorphism within the 3'-UTR 8473T↷C of the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) gene, which plays a role in gastrointestinal cancer development, has been associated with susceptibility to malignant disease. Here, we report on the interaction between the COX-2 3'-UTR T↷C polymorphism and gastric cancer development. DNA from 121 Japanese patients with gastric cancer and 126 age-matched control patients ...
